Hot weather can be very uncomforting and it presents a special list of dangers for your dog. Keep in mind the following the things as the barometer rises to keep your dog cool.

Heat Hazards
1. Shady spot to rest in, doghouses become like ovens
2. Kids wading pool is good.
3. Plenty of water, no strenouse exercise
4. Not keeping your dog in your vehicle for too long.
5. Avoid asphalt or sand
6. Short snouted dogs cannot pant as efficently as longer faced dogs, best to keep them indoors.
General Health
1. Keep vaccinations up to date
2. Keep dogs off lawns as they could be treated with chemicals
3. Keep dog well brushed and cleaned
4. Keep your heartworm medication or prevention up to date as ticks and mosquitoes carrying the disease are prevalent this time of year.
Beach Tips
1. Dogs with short coats can sunburn easily, keep them in shady spot.
2. Running on sand can be strenous, keep this to a minimum
3. Dont let your dog drink saltwater it will make him sick
Water safety
1. Never throw your dog into the water
2. If swimming for first time start in shallow water and coax your dog in.
3. If swimming in ocean be mindful of strong tides.
4. Never leave dog in water unattended
